Standing up to Your Teacher Desk

One of the biggest issues for teachers in the classroom is lack of space.

Not enough room for the large class sizes, not to mention the ability to move around freely for learning centers or cooperative learning activities.

Because of this, many teachers have given up a private desk space.

Mind you, they still need a place to grade papers and write lesson plans and type up parent newsletters and eat lunch (usually while doing all those things) and a multitude of others things when they don’t have students sitting in their seats.

But, they also know that student learning space is more important, so they forgo their own personal space.

What if there was a solution that allowed them to continue having space that didn’t take up as much valuable real estate in the classroom?

Standing Desks in the Classroom

One great option is a standing desk. It allows the teacher to raise it up or down based on what he or she needs the desk for throughout the day or based on personal preferences.

It can be raised when not in use for example so it keeps small hands away from important documents or assessments.

Or lowered and a chair pulled over after school to do some grading.

The kind folks at Flexispot sent me over an Esben Standing Desk UD5M to try out for myself and I can truly say that this would be a fabulous classroom desk option.

First of all, I LOVE the hutch style. To me, it’s more of a furniture piece rather than a cold corporate desk you might find in a fancy office building.

Having the cubbies underneath is perfect for storing files, papers, a stapler and tape dispenser, pencil sharpener, and more!

And the hubby told me it was SUPER easy to put together. Like really simple.

Everything was in the box and the directions were very clear.

The one suggestion we did have was to put at least one hole in the back of the hutch for plugging in items that might sit in the cubbies, such as a phone charging cable.

But it is super sturdy and moving it up and down with the control panel is super quiet as well. So smooth. It will support almost 100 pounds, so placing monitors and other tech equipment will be no problem. It is even definitely wide enough to accommodate 2 monitors.

The top itself also has a rounded edge which is an important safety for littles who will probably be curious about the desk in the room.

And there is an anti-collision safety feature so your desk won’t come crashing down on top of a filling cabinet you might have placed under it.

Using the Desk at Home

If your desk is something you splurge on for school throughout the year, but want to bring home in the summer, it even looks nice in a home office or a closet desk nook.

Flexispot also has extra accessory options for your standing desk that include under desk treadmills or bikes if you would like to get your fitness while browsing Pinterest.
